The blood-red snow plan has no chlorophyll (which makes plants green), so it nourishes itself with decaying matter on the ground

With the benefit of making an early start this morning, we reach the Best Western Frontier Motel at 3:30pm. This arrival time gives us the opportunity to admire the motel's garden and explore the nearby Alabama Hills - an area of unusual rocks used as a background in many movies.
