Sunday, June 2nd:

Today we drive to the Lasithi Plateau, following a road that gradually climbs up until we reach the Seli Ambelou Pass. Here there are wonderful views across the mountains. After a short stop to admire the extensive views, we make a second stop shortly afterwards where there is a very large restaurant nearby a set of windmills.

We get drinks in the restaurant before making the short climb to the mountain ridge where the windmills  are located. One of these appears to have been maintained as a tourist attraction, but its construction and interior are fascinating

Our next stop is at Tzermiado, a village on the road that circles the plateau. The village is very rundown, with many of the houses seeming to have been abandoned. The church is attractive, although even here there is a problem with ceiling tiles having fallen
