Cricket St. Thomas & Baddesley Clinton: September 2020
(continued)
From the village of Eype we explore the area near the Golden Cap coast and find the Garden Cafe at Down House Farm for a snack lunch
The following day is spent at the village of Dunster with its castle and gardens
Dunster Castle (National Trust) is a former motte and bailey castle, now a country house. The castle lies on the top of a steep
hill called the Tor, and has been fortified since the late Anglo-Saxon period. Little remains of the medieval castle except for
the Great Gatehouse and the remains of several towers in the Lower Ward; the heart of the modern castle today is the much altered
17th-century manor house which includes some splendid leather tapestries showing scenes from the story of Antony and Cleopatra
The medieval village of Dunster contains the Yarn Market - an octagonal building constructed around a central pier - and a number
of establishments serving afternoon teas
