On the way back to Knowle we visit the National Trust property at Tyntesfield, a Victorian Gothic Revival house and estate near Wraxall, North Somerset. The house is named after the Tynte baronets, who had owned estates in the area since about 1500. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, just a few rooms on the ground floor of the house are open, and there is a one-way system operating in the extensive gardens

Our three-night stay at the Warner's hotel at Cricket St. Thomas was spent in two rooms, both in the Garden Wall section of the hotel, and both classified as 'Contemporary Royale'. After a first night of creaking floorboards from the room above, we moved to the top floor - our room here was distinguished by a title ("Charlotte Nelson") and a four-poster bed, but its maintenance state was no better, as exampled by the window frame

Back at Knowle, we explore the gardens at the nearby National Trust property of Baddesley Clinton. This year, the gardens lack their usual magnificent formal dahlia border
