After strolling near Doune Castle (above) we continue walking at the next stop on the excursion when we wander through the village
of Culross.
Thomas Cochrane, a naval officer, mercenary,
and politician, who spent his early life in Culross.
Our stroll through the quiet streets of Culross takes us past the Mercat Cross and ends at the Red Lion pub with its quirky ceiling.
After our 8½-hour "In Search of Outlander"
we return to the Queen Anne by one of its tenders.
May 21st: in contrast with yesterday's long 8½-hour excursion, today our trip to Cawdor Castle and Culloden is only 4½-hours, and
this proves to be quite inadequate to fully appreciate the venues.
Cawdor Castle, in Nairnshire, is built around a 15th Century tower house. It's best known for its literary connection with Shakespeare's
Macbeth. With the aid of an audio guide, we explore the castle's magnificent interior.
