The castle is known for its gardens, which include the Walled Garden, the Flower Garden, and the Wild Garden. However, we have too
little time to explore them thoroughly.
We have even less time at the Culloden Battlefield - the site of Bonny Prince Charles' defeat in 1746 - less than an hour to explore
this historic place where the 1745 Jacobite Rising came to an end. When we came here in the 1970s, we experienced an atmospheric battlefield,
probably little changed for over two hundred years. On this occasion, we just have time to visit the 360-degree battle immersion
theatre in the over-commercialised visitor centre, and a short stroll of the battlefield to the restored 18th century Leanach
Cottage.
Before returning us to the ship, the coach makes a circuit of Invergordon in order that we can view some of the murals that have been
created in the port to integrate the local community. Princess Anne, who is to feature later on our cruise, 'opened' the mural trail
in 2007.
