There are close-up views of Alcatraz Island before we return to the Port of San Francisco. The views of San Francisco include the circular Coit Tower - our next objective

After our cruise, we get a taxi to the (free) Cable Car Museum, the building that incorporates the Powerhouse - the device that drives the four cables to which the cars are attached. A taxi is the only viable option as due to this being a holiday weekend, it is impossible to board the crowded cable cars.

 

Another taxi ride gets us to Coit Tower (left) located on Telegraph Hill. From the tower's observation platform there are superb views of San Francisco's hills and across the Bay.

From Coit Tower we walk to Pier 39 for some lunch before returning to the Marina Hotel.

After freshening up, we spend the evening enjoying a performance

of Phantom of the Opera at the Curran Theatre

Day 4 begins with a walk towards Fisherman's Wharf, near where we take a cable car  to the Powell Street terminus, and then walk the short distance to Union Square

In Union Square, the centre of San Francisco's fashionable shopping district, there is an exhibition of paintings and sculptors - many of the paintings we find to be very attractive
