The Pyramid de Mayo is the oldest national monument in the city - it celebrates the 1810 revolution that began the Argentine
War of Independence
The Plaza de Mayo also includes the Metropolitan Cathedral whose ceiling contains some biblical scenes. In the Cathedral (right)
is the Mausoleum of General San Martin guarded by statues representing Argentina, Peru, and Chile.
Song to Work: the statue was inaugurated in 1907, as an expression of liberation, work effort and the hope of a common struggle. It
has 14 bronze figures dragging a huge stone.
The bus stops at Caminito and we explore this area of brightly;painted houses and artists selling their wares. The area is very crowded
with tourists but after some difficulty we manage to get a drink and a ham and cheese croissant
BThe bus tour continues as we are taken to the Caminito. Located in La boca, the Caminito (little path, in Spanish) is a street museum
of colourful painted houses typical of the immigrant dwellings that came to characterise this portside area towards the end of the
19th and start of the 20th century. On the way, we pass the football stadium of the famous Boca Juniors team
